What is BioThane and why do we use it for our canine products?

BioThane is a coated webbing that looks and feels like leather but performs like nothing else. It's waterproof, stink-proof, and wipe-clean - meaning whatever your dog rolls in, the collar stays fresh.

Unlike fabric or nylon, nothing absorbs into BioThane. Water runs off. Mud wipes away in seconds. There's no moisture sitting against your dog's coat and no smell building up over time.

It's flexible in cold weather, won't stiffen or crack, and holds its colour walk after walk. The same material has been used in equestrian tack, medical equipment, and military gear for decades - it's built to last.

How do I clean my new BioThane dog lead?

Simply wipe it down with a damp cloth after use. For a deeper clean, warm soapy water does the job. It dries almost instantly and won't hold onto odours - even after the muddiest of walks.

What width should I choose for my dog lead?
  • 16mm - ideal for smaller breeds or owners who prefer a lighter, more streamlined lead
  • 19mm - a versatile middle ground that suits most breeds
  • 25mm - best for larger or stronger dogs, offering maximum grip and durability
Is BioThane safe for dogs that chew?

BioThane is extremely durable and resistant to wear, but no lead is fully chew-proof. If your dog is an active chewer, we recommend supervising them and addressing the chewing behaviour with training.

Is this lead suitable for strong pullers?

Yes. BioThane has an exceptionally high tensile strength and our hardware is rated to handle strong dogs. For very large or powerful breeds, we recommend the 25mm width for the most secure grip and strongest hardware.

Is BioThane vegan?

Yes! BioThane is a completely vegan alternative to leather. It contains no animal products whatsoever, making it a great choice for cruelty-free pet owners.
