Most neck rings are all rope, which looks lovely and slides straight through your fingers the moment you actually need it. Ours doesn't: a structured BioThane® rider grip rests across the withers to give you something secure to hold, joined to a rope loop with exactly the weight and drape you want for clear neck-reining cues.

How Should It Fit?

When fitted correctly, the neck rope should sit comfortably at the base of your horse's neck, resting gently against the chest and shoulders.

The Golden Rule: There must be enough slack for you to comfortably hold the BioThane handle from the saddle without putting constant pressure or tension on the horse!

🐴 The Rider Grip: Crafted from strictly waterproof 19mm Genuine BioThane® BETA. This premium PVC-coated webbing provides a smooth, leather-like feel that will never rot, stretch, or hold onto nasty yard odours.

🐴 The Neck Loop: Made from premium 10mm braided PPM (Polypropylene Multifilament) rope. This highly durable, weather-proof rope is lightweight yet provides the essential drape required for bridleless riding. It is naturally resistant to mildew and incredibly easy to keep clean.

🐴 The Hardware: We anchor the BioThane handle to the PPM rope with heavy-duty, rust-resistant Chicago screws, built to shrug off the absolute worst of the UK winter. Choose the Breakaway Snap and we add a solid 15mm brass S-spring press stud: a deliberate safety feature, smooth to pop on and off, and designed to release under pressure so a caught neck rope lets go rather than holding fast if you and your horse come apart.

What size Liberty Neck Rope do I need?

We offer four carefully scaled standard sizes. The total length indicates the full loop, while the 19mm waterproof BioThane grip section is proportioned to sit perfectly across the withers for each size:

Small Pony: Total Length 115cm (BioThane Grip: 46cm)
Pony: Total Length 135cm (BioThane Grip: 54cm)
Cob: Total Length 155cm (BioThane Grip: 62cm)

How should a liberty neck rope fit?

When fitted, the neck rope should sit comfortably at the base of the horse's neck, resting against the chest and shoulders. It must have enough slack for the rider to hold the BioThane handle securely without putting constant pressure on the horse.

Why does this neck rope have a BioThane section at the top?

While traditional neck ropes are made entirely of rope, we designed our hybrid version with a waterproof BioThane strap at the withers. This gives the rider a smooth, structured, and non-slip "handle" to hold onto, which offers far more stability and grip than holding onto woven rope, especially in wet winter weather!

Is the rope heavy enough for clear communication?

Yes! We use 10mm premium weather-proof PPM rope that provides an excellent drape and natural weight. This allows your horse to easily feel the physical cues and neck-reining aids required for bridleless riding and liberty work.

Is it easy to clean after a muddy ride?

Absolutely. Unlike traditional leather that requires oiling, our neck ropes are built for real yard life. You can wipe the BioThane handle clean with a sponge in seconds, and dunk the rope section into a bucket of warm soapy water. It will dry quickly and never hold onto yard smells!

Will the hardware rust?

No! We know this gear will be exposed to the elements, so we exclusively use rust-resistant stainless steel Chicago screws to secure the BioThane grip to the PPM rope. It is built to survive the absolute worst of the UK winter.

What's the difference between the Fixed Loop and the Breakaway Snap?

The Fixed Loop is our classic — one continuous, closed loop that goes over the head, with nothing to fasten. The Breakaway Snap is a safety upgrade: a solid brass press stud designed to release under pressure, so if you and your horse part ways and the neck rope catches on something, it pops open rather than holding fast. It's also lovely and quick to pop on and off day to day. Both are made to the same weatherproof standard — the Breakaway Snap is about the peace of mind of a fastening that lets go when it matters.
