Hi, I'm Sophia — the maker behind Ponies & Pups. I hand-craft every collar, lead, halter and browband myself, and I care a great deal about being honest with you about how I run things.

AI is a big talking point these days, and I'd far rather be open about how I use it than leave you wondering. So here's the plain-English rundown — where AI lends a hand in my little business, and, just as importantly, where it never does.

My product photos

The gear you see is always the real thing — genuine photographs of actual, handmade pieces you'll receive. There are two things I sometimes adjust in a photo, and I want to be completely upfront about both:

The background

• To protect my home and privacy. 🏡 A lot of my work is photographed at home, and removing the background means no one can spot local landmarks and work out where I live. As a small maker working from home, that peace of mind really matters.
• To let the colours shine. ✨ A real product on a clean, blank background is simply the best way to show off the bright, colourful gear without a busy setting stealing the show.
• Occasionally, for a bit of vibe. 🎨 Now and then I'll add a styled or AI-generated background to set a mood — but the product in front of it is always 100% real and exactly what will arrive.

The colour

I offer over 300,000 possible colour combinations — so it's physically impossible to make, stock and photograph one of every single size and shade. That means I'll sometimes use editing tools to recolour the BioThane or rope in a photo to show you a particular option.

• It's only ever the colour that changes — never the structure, build or quality of the piece.
• I always work to get it as true to the real shade as I possibly can.
• And because I keep all the raw materials in stock, if you'd like to see the genuine article before you buy, just ask — I'll send you a real photo of the actual BioThane or rope in your chosen colour, there and then. 📷

My words

I'm a maker, not a marketer — and honestly, being found online these days is almost a full-time job on its own. The rules of getting seen keep shifting constantly (SEO, AEO, and whatever the internet decides to change next 🙄), and keeping up with all of it while handmaking everything simply isn't possible single-handed.

So I use AI as a writing helper — to:

• Draft and shape blog posts, product descriptions and emails, so my gear actually reaches the people searching for it.
• Proofread and tidy my writing (I'm a maker, not an English teacher! 😅).
• Keep pace with the ever-moving goalposts of how search engines — and now AI assistants like ChatGPT — decide what to show people.

But here's the important bit: the voice, the knowledge and the stories are always mine. Every piece is written in my own words, reviewed and rewritten by me, and grounded in what I genuinely know about my craft, my materials and my products. AI helps me keep up — it doesn't put words in my mouth or pretend to know my work better than I do. That part's still all me. 💙

My illustrations & cartoons

Sometimes a blog post or a bit of content just calls for a fun little drawing rather than a photo — and that's where my illustrations come in. I use AI to help me create cartoons and characters, like Wren & Pickle, my recurring little rider-and-pony duo who pop up to add a bit of charm.

My promises here:

• They're always, obviously drawings 🎨 — playful cartoons, never dressed up to look like a real photo. If it's illustrated, you'll know at a glance.
• They're purely for fun, storytelling and personality — never to represent an actual product. (Real products are always shown in real photos, as above.)
• They also let me illustrate a story or idea without always putting myself or Patsy in front of the camera — lovely for my privacy, and it means I can keep adding colour and character to my content without commissioning custom artwork for every single post. 🐴

Behind the scenes

AI also helps me with the less glamorous side of running a business single-handed — the back-office bits you never see, but which keep everything ticking:

• Making sense of my sales figures, website analytics and trends 📊 — so I know which colours are flying out the door, what to restock, and what you'd like more of.
• Keeping on top of stock, materials and purchasing 📦 — tracking what's running low, what needs reordering, and making sure I've always got the raw materials ready to make your piece.
• Tidying spreadsheets and admin, and handling fiddly technical jobs (like keeping my website healthy and easy to find on Google).
• Helping me plan — content, launches, and where best to spend my very limited time.

None of this touches the products or what you see when you shop — it just frees me up to spend more time at my bench and less time buried in paperwork.

And on your details: I only ever use AI to understand my own business trends and numbers — never to do anything careless with your personal information. In fact, even my own behind-the-scenes reporting is deliberately set up to use no more than a first name — never your full name, address or payment details. Everything is handled securely through trusted systems (like Shopify), and exactly how is set out in my Privacy Policy. 🔒
